Durban Part 4: Places to Stay

With miles of beautiful coastlines, there are tons of accommodation options to suit any travel style and budget. This list is by no means extensive, and we’ve chosen to share some of the places we’ve sampled over the last couple of years to give an idea of what’s available.

In general, self-catering or hotel apartments tend to be more spacious and better suited to families travelling together, as hotel rooms lack a communal space to congregate in. If staying in Durban Central or Umhlanga, hotel rooms are convenient and often cheaper than booking apartments for people without a Timeshare, and with all the food options around, you don’t really need the kitchen. However, the halaal options in areas like Ballito and Margate are quite limited, and in these areas it is recommended to opt for an apartment as you will likely be cooking or heating up food you’ve brought with.
